Bosch Dishwasher E22 / E9240 error code

Difficulty: Easy · Cost: $0–$80 · Duration: 15–20m

The E22 or E9240 error means your Bosch dishwasher cannot drain properly due to a blocked filter, a clogged or loose drain pump, a kinked drain hose, or a blocked air gap. This is one of the most common and easiest Bosch dishwasher errors to fix yourself by cleaning the filter and checking the drain system.

Common causes

  • Dishwasher filter is blocked with food particles and needs cleaning
  • Drain pump is clogged with debris or the pump cover is not fully clicked into place
  • Drain hose is kinked or sharply bent
  • Air gap or drain hose connection is clogged with debris

How to fix it

  1. 1

Remove and wash the filter under running water with mild soap and a soft brush then reinstall

  2. 2

Remove the drain pump cover, remove standing water and debris, replace the cover and make sure it clicks fully into place

  3. 3

Check the drain hose for kinks and straighten if found

  4. 4

Turn off the appliance, check and clear the air gap, disconnect the drain hose into a bucket, clear any debris, reconnect, then run a rinse cycle to test

  5. 5

If the error returns after all the above reset the dishwasher by disconnecting power for 30 seconds

  6. 6

If E22 persists contact a qualified technician
