LG Refrigerator (French Door) IF error code

The IF error means your LG refrigerator has detected a problem with the ice maker fan. This code may also appear as F1 on some models. The ice maker fan circulates air to keep the ice maker at the correct temperature for producing ice. When frost or ice builds up around the fan blades it cannot spin freely and the unit displays this error. A manual defrost resolves it in most cases. If the error returns after defrosting and the doors and leveling have been checked the ice maker fan motor may need replacing by a technician. For French Door models check the gasket alongside the door to ensure it is not torn or damaged — frost buildup can occur if the doors are not aligned properly.

  • Frost or ice buildup around the ice maker fan blades preventing them from spinning
  • Door gasket is torn or not sealing properly allowing warm humid air to enter and cause frost
  • Refrigerator doors are not properly aligned or the unit is not level causing poor door sealing
  • Vents inside the refrigerator are blocked disrupting airflow
  • Ice maker fan motor has malfunctioned or failed

How to fix it

    Unplug the refrigerator and remove all food and ice from the ice bin

    Leave both doors open and place towels inside and around the unit to absorb melting water

    Wait at least 8 hours for all frost and ice to melt completely

  4. 4

    After 8 hours use a dry towel to wipe out any remaining moisture from both compartments

    Plug the unit back in and allow 24 to 48 hours for it to return to normal operating temperature

    Check that all vents inside the refrigerator are clear and not blocked by food or containers

    Check the door gaskets for tears or damage especially on French Door models

    Make sure the refrigerator is level and both doors are properly aligned and closing completely
