LG Refrigerator (Top Freezer) FF error code

The FF error means your LG refrigerator has detected an issue with the freezer fan. The freezer fan circulates cold air throughout the freezer and refrigerator compartments — when it cannot spin properly cooling is affected in both sections. The most common cause is excessive frost buildup around the fan blades preventing them from turning. A manual defrost resolves this in many cases. If no frost is present the fan motor itself may have failed and will need replacing by a technician.

  • Door gasket is not sealing properly allowing warm humid air in and causing excess frost
  • Refrigerator or freezer doors are not closing or sitting level correctly
  • Freezer fan motor has malfunctioned or failed
  • Vents inside the refrigerator are blocked preventing proper airflow

How to fix it

    Unplug the refrigerator and remove all food and ice from the ice bin

    Leave both doors open and place towels inside and around the unit to absorb water

  3. 3

    Wait at least 8 hours for all frost to melt completely

    After 8 hours use a dry towel to remove any remaining moisture inside both compartments

    Plug the unit back in and allow 24 to 48 hours for the refrigerator to return to normal operating temperature

    Check that all vents inside the refrigerator are not blocked by food or containers

    Check the door gaskets all the way around for gaps or tears that could be letting warm air in

    Make sure the refrigerator is level and both doors are closing and sealing completely
