Samsung Dishwasher 5C / 5E error code

Difficulty: Easy · Cost: $0–$80 · Duration: 15–20m

The 5C or 5E error means your Samsung dishwasher cannot drain the water from the tub. This is most commonly caused by a blocked drain hose, a clogged filter, or an incorrectly installed drain hose. Checking the drain hose installation and cleaning the filter resolves it in most cases.

Common causes

  • Drain hose is kinked, bent, or not correctly installed
  • Dishwasher filter is clogged with food debris
  • Sink drain or air gap is blocked
  • Drain pump has malfunctioned

How to fix it

  1. 1

Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure it is correctly routed — it should have a high loop or air gap to prevent backflow

  2. 2

Make sure the drain hose connection to the sink is not pinched or blocked

  3. 3

Remove and clean the dishwasher filter at the bottom of the tub

  4. 4

Check the sink drain and air gap for blockages

  5. 5

Unplug the dishwasher for 1 to 5 minutes then restore power and try again
