Whirlpool Dishwasher E1 error code

The E1 error means your Whirlpool dishwasher's overfill protection float — located in the front right corner of the dishwasher tub — has detected that the water level is too high, or the float itself is stuck and not moving freely. The float must be in place and able to move freely for the dishwasher to operate. Check the float area for obstructions. A power reset sometimes resolves a stuck float sensor reading.

Common causes

The overfill protection float is stuck in the raised position due to debris around it
An object or piece of food debris is blocking the float from moving freely
The dishwasher may be siphoning water — drain hose installed too low
Water inlet valve is faulty allowing too much water to enter

How to fix it

Open the dishwasher and locate the overfill float in the front right corner of the tub

Remove any food debris or objects from around the float area

Move the float up and down by hand to confirm it moves freely

Unplug the dishwasher or turn off the circuit breaker for 1 minute then restore power
