The drn code on your Whirlpool top load HE washer means the machine is not draining properly. This can sometimes be an installation issue — the drain hose may be too far into the standpipe, kinked, or positioned too low. Check the drain hose installation and make sure the standpipe height is correct.
Common causes
- Drain hose is inserted too far into the standpipe — more than 4.5 inches (113mm)
- Drain hose is kinked or blocked
- Drain hose is installed too low allowing water to siphon back into the tub
- Standpipe height is outside the required range
How to fix it
-
1
Check the drain hose at the back of the washer and make sure it is not kinked
-
2
Confirm the drain hose is not inserted more than 4.5 inches (113mm) into the standpipe
-
3
Make sure the standpipe height is between 39–96 inches (99–244cm) from the floor
