Whirlpool Washing Machine (Top Load) drn error code

Difficulty: Easy · Cost: $0–$100 · Duration: 10–15m

The drn code on your Whirlpool top load HE washer means the machine is not draining properly. This can sometimes be an installation issue — the drain hose may be too far into the standpipe, kinked, or positioned too low. Check the drain hose installation and make sure the standpipe height is correct.

Common causes

  • Drain hose is inserted too far into the standpipe — more than 4.5 inches (113mm)
  • Drain hose is kinked or blocked
  • Drain hose is installed too low allowing water to siphon back into the tub
  • Standpipe height is outside the required range

How to fix it

  1. 1

Check the drain hose at the back of the washer and make sure it is not kinked

  2. 2

Confirm the drain hose is not inserted more than 4.5 inches (113mm) into the standpipe

  3. 3

Make sure the standpipe height is between 39–96 inches (99–244cm) from the floor

  4. 4

Secure the drain hose with the plastic tie to prevent it from moving during operation

  5. 5

If the drn code persists after checking the installation contact a qualified technician or schedule service
