LG Dryer d80 error code

Difficulty: Medium · Cost: $0–$150 · Duration: 20–30m

The d80 code means your LG dryer detected that the exhaust airflow is approximately 80% blocked somewhere between the dryer and the outside exhaust vent. This is part of LG's Flow Sense system which monitors airflow and warns you before a full blockage occurs. A heavily restricted vent causes longer drying times, overheating, and is a potential fire hazard. In most cases this is caused by lint buildup in the vent system and can be resolved by cleaning the lint trap, checking the exhaust hose, and inspecting the outside vent. If cleaning does not resolve it a professional duct cleaner will be needed.

Common causes

  • Lint trap has not been cleaned regularly causing restricted airflow through the dryer
  • Exhaust hose behind the dryer is crushed, kinked, dented, or coiled
  • Holes or loose connections in the exhaust hose reducing airflow
  • Outside exhaust vent flappers are jammed with lint and cannot open fully
  • Lint buildup inside the wall ducts restricting airflow along the full vent run

How to fix it

  1. 1

Remove and clean the lint trap — clear all lint and wash with warm water and a soft brush then let it dry before reinstalling

  2. 2

Reduce the load size to allow better air circulation from back to front of the drum

  3. 3

Check the exhaust hose behind the dryer — straighten any kinks, dents, or coils and make sure it forms a smooth S-curve not a spring shape

  4. 4

Inspect the exhaust hose for holes or loose connections at either end and reseal or replace if needed

  5. 5

Locate the exhaust outlet on the outside of your home and check that the flappers can open fully — remove any visible lint around them

  6. 6

Run the Air Dry cycle and watch the outside flappers to confirm they open completely

  7. 7

If all of the above steps do not clear the code contact a professional dryer duct cleaner to clean the wall ducts

  8. 8

When a duct cleaner visits ask them for the total length of the vent run and the number of 90 degree bends — this determines if modifications are needed
