LG Refrigerator (Side-by-Side) gF error code

Difficulty: Medium · Cost: $0–$200 · Duration: 5–10m

The gF error means your LG refrigerator has detected a problem with the water flow sensor or the water supply pressure coming into the unit. The flow sensor monitors how much water is being delivered to the ice maker — if it malfunctions the ice maker may overfill with water or not fill correctly. Low water pressure from the household supply can also trigger this error. Increasing the water pressure resolves it in some cases but if the error persists the flow sensor will need to be inspected and replaced by a technician.

Common causes

  • Water flow sensor has malfunctioned and is giving incorrect readings
  • Household water supply pressure is too low for the refrigerator to operate correctly
  • Water inlet valve is partially blocked reducing flow to the ice maker
  • Flow sensor wiring is loose or damaged

How to fix it

  1. 1

Check the water supply valve behind the refrigerator and make sure it is fully open

  2. 2

If water pressure seems low partially increase it at the supply valve

  3. 3

Check that the water supply line is not kinked or pinched

  4. 4

Restart the refrigerator and check if the gF error clears

  5. 5

If the ice maker has been overfilling with water the flow sensor is likely faulty and needs replacing by a technician

  6. 6

If gF persists after checking pressure and supply contact a technician for flow sensor inspection
