LG Refrigerator (Side-by-Side) rF error code
Difficulty: Medium
·
Cost: $0–$200
·
Duration: 8h
The rF error means your LG refrigerator has detected a problem with the refrigerator compartment fan motor. The refrigerator fan circulates cold air from the evaporator throughout the fridge section to maintain an even temperature. When it cannot spin normally cooling performance drops and food may not stay at the correct temperature. Frost buildup around the fan blades is a common cause and a manual defrost can resolve it. If no frost is present or the error returns after defrosting the fan motor itself will need replacing by a technician.
Common causes
- Frost buildup around the refrigerator fan blades preventing them from spinning
- Door gasket is not sealing properly allowing warm humid air in and causing excess frost
- Refrigerator doors are not properly aligned or the unit is not level
- Vents inside the refrigerator are blocked disrupting airflow
- Refrigerator fan motor has malfunctioned or failed
How to fix it
-
1
Unplug the refrigerator and remove all food and ice from the ice bin
-
2
Leave both doors open and place towels inside and around the unit to absorb melting water
-
3
Wait at least 8 hours for all frost to melt completely
-
4
After 8 hours use a dry towel to wipe out any remaining moisture from both compartments
-
5
Plug the unit back in and allow 24 to 48 hours for the refrigerator to return to normal operating temperature
-
6

-
7
Check the door gaskets for tears or damage and make sure doors are closing and sealing completely
