HP Printer (DeskJet) E5 error code

The E5 error means your HP DeskJet printer's scanner or printer is in an error state. This error typically appears when you try to use the copy or scan function and the scanner is not responding, or when the printer itself has encountered an error condition. The printer can still print even when E5 is displayed. Resetting the printer by unplugging it for 60 seconds clears most E5 errors.

How to fix it

    Press the Cancel button and try the scan or copy again

    If the error persists reset the printer — with the printer on disconnect the power cord from the printer

    Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet

    Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet — do not use a power strip
