HP Printer (ENVY) E0 error code

Difficulty: Easy · Cost: $0–$30 · Duration: 10–15m

The E0 error means your HP ENVY printer detected that one or both ink cartridges are unusable. This occurs when a cartridge is not seated correctly, has dirty contacts, or has failed entirely. Reseating both cartridges and cleaning the ink cartridge contacts resolves most E0 errors. If the error persists after cleaning replace the affected cartridge with a new genuine HP cartridge compatible with your ENVY model.

Common causes

  • One or both cartridges are not seated correctly in their slots
  • The copper-coloured contacts on a cartridge are dirty or have a poor connection
  • A cartridge has failed and is no longer usable
  • Protective tape was not fully removed from a new cartridge

How to fix it

  1. 1

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving

  2. 2

Press down on each cartridge to release it and remove both cartridges

  3. 3

Check that no protective tape remains on the contacts or nozzles of either cartridge

  4. 4

Reinsert both cartridges firmly into their colour-coded slots until they click

  5. 5

If the error persists clean the copper-coloured contacts on each cartridge with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water — do not touch the ink nozzles

  6. 6

Also clean the matching contacts inside the carriage with a lint-free cloth and distilled water

  7. 7

Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry then reinsert the cartridges

  8. 8

Restart the printer and check if E0 has cleared

  9. 9

If E0 returns replace the affected cartridge with a new genuine HP cartridge for your ENVY model
