HP Printer (OfficeJet) Offline / Connection Error / Unable to Connect / 0x6100004a error code

Difficulty: Easy · Cost: $0 · Duration: 5–15m

The Offline, Connection Error, or Unable to Connect message means your HP OfficeJet printer cannot be reached by your computer or mobile device over Wi-Fi or the network. This is most commonly caused by a changed Wi-Fi password, IP address conflict, weak Wi-Fi signal, or the printer being assigned to a different network. Restarting the printer and router resolves most connection issues.

Common causes

  • Wi-Fi password was changed and the printer is still using the old credentials
  • Router was replaced or the network name changed
  • IP address conflict between the printer and another device on the network
  • Printer is connected to a different Wi-Fi network than the computer
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal causing an unstable connection
  • Wireless isolation is enabled on the router preventing printer communication

How to fix it

  1. 1

Restart the printer and the router by turning both off and back on

  2. 2

Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the computer or mobile device

  3. 3

If the Wi-Fi password recently changed run the wireless setup again using the HP Smart app

  4. 4

Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer settings and verify the IP address

  5. 5

If there is an IP address conflict assign a static IP to the printer through the router settings

  6. 6

Check that wireless isolation is not enabled on the router

  7. 7

If the printer remains offline try removing it from the HP app and re-adding it
