HP Printer (OfficeJet) Scanner Error / Scanner Failure error code

The Scanner Error or Scanner Failure message means the scanner on your HP OfficeJet printer is not working correctly. Note that the printer can still print while the scanner is in an error state. A power reset resolves most scanner errors. If it persists check that the scanner glass is clean and that the protective sheet has been removed from new printers.

Common causes

  • The scanner encountered a temporary error or fault
  • Protective film was not removed from the scanner glass on a new printer
  • The scanner glass is dirty affecting the scanner's calibration

How to fix it

    Check the scanner glass and make sure any protective plastic film has been fully removed

    Clean the scanner glass with a soft lint-free cloth

  3. 3

    With the printer on disconnect the power cord from the printer

  4. 4

    Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds

  5. 5

    Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn the printer on

  6. 6

    Try scanning again

  7. 7

    Note that the printer can still print even if the scanner is in an error state
