LG Washing Machine (Front Load) AE error code
The AE error means the leak sensor at the base of your LG washing machine has detected water inside the unit. The machine stops the cycle immediately and activates the drain pump as a safety measure to prevent flooding. This is one of the more serious errors as water is actively leaking somewhere inside the appliance. The most common causes are a torn door seal, a loose internal hose connection, or excessive suds overflowing. The machine should not be used until the source of the leak is identified and fixed.
Common causes
- Torn or damaged rubber door gasket allowing water to escape during the cycle
- Loose or cracked internal hose connecting the tub to the drain pump
- Cracked detergent dispenser housing leaking water into the base
- Excessive suds overflowing into the base pan and triggering the leak sensor
- Rear tub seal failure allowing water into the base
How to fix it
-
1
Press power to stop the cycle and turn off both water supply taps immediately
-
2
Unplug the machine from the outlet
-
3
Place towels around the base to catch any water
-
4
Inspect the rubber door gasket all the way around for tears, holes, or areas where it has pulled away from the panel
-
5
Check the detergent dispenser for cracks or suds overflow
-
6
If you cannot identify the source of the leak unplug the machine and contact a technician — do not use it until repaired
