LG Washing Machine (Front Load) SUD error code
The SUD code appears when your LG washing machine detects an excessive amount of soap foam inside the drum. The machine automatically adds a suds-reduction cycle to break down the foam before continuing, which can add up to 2 hours to the total cycle time. If the suds are detected during the spin cycle the machine will pause to prevent water from leaking out. This is not a mechanical fault — it is almost always caused by using too much detergent or the wrong type.
Common causes
- Too much detergent added for the load size
- Using regular detergent instead of HE detergent in an HE machine
- Detergent residue built up inside the drum from previous washes
- Soft water conditions that cause detergent to foam more than usual
How to fix it
-
1
Do not open the machine — let it complete the automatic suds reduction cycle
-
2
Once the cycle finishes run an empty rinse cycle to clear remaining soap residue
-
3
Reduce the amount of detergent you use in future washes
-
4
Switch to HE detergent if you are not already using it
-
5
Run a Tub Clean cycle to remove any detergent buildup inside the drum
