tCL is not an error code. It is a maintenance reminder that appears when your LG washing machine detects it has been a while since the drum was last cleaned. Over time detergent residue, dirt, and moisture build up inside the tub and can cause unpleasant odours. Running the tub clean cycle removes this buildup and keeps the machine fresh. The reminder may show for a few cycles even after cleaning.

Common causes

  • The tub clean cycle has not been run for an extended period
  • Detergent and fabric softener residue has built up inside the drum
  • Moisture and lint accumulation causing odour inside the tub

How to fix it

    Empty the drum completely — no laundry should be inside

    Add a washing machine cleaning powder or tablet to the drum

    Power on the machine and select the Tub Clean cycle using the knob or dedicated button

    Press start and let the full cycle complete

    If you want to skip it for now select any other cycle to dismiss the reminder temporarily
